"Research Base for Open Source Environment - A collaboration platform for humanity."

Why?

Throughout the time of the existence of mankind, there have been numerous attempts to keep science, knowledge and resources shared as common heritage. Yet history has shown that individuals can feel the need to claim ownership of resources, and protect their work from being shared when faced with scarcity in resource access. As a result, technology and art that could vastly improve human culture and society as a whole, is kept scarce and out of reach for most people. This way of thinking promotes scarcity as a profit motive, and often results in products with planned obsolescence and perpetual waste. In the hunt for profit and resource access, our society has developed into an economical dogma. A dogma of infinite growth, with the requirement of tomorrow being as great or greater than yesterday. As our exponential growth continues we're rapidly approaching the point of head-on collision with the laws of nature that contradict this dogma. Just because the human population is growing exponentially out of the carrying capacity of Earth, it does not mean that the resource access will follow. In fact, for the majority of our species, it will not.

Open and transparent cooperation between humans is far more beneficial for the society as a whole than religious notions, nationalistic beliefs and monetary gain. This is mainly because byproducts of these so called "institutions" are often social pressure, economic externalization and discrimination.

If motivation and inspiration to develop can be encouraged in an environment where knowledge is open and freely accessible, then the relationship between individuals can be shaped regardless of personal background and beliefs. In such an environment where information is open and unrestricted, anyone who wants to participate is allowed to be on the cutting edge of science, working and sharing the latest knowledge when solving problems.

If you believe that sharing is caring, and understand that the most beneficial thing anyone can do, is to take care of the environment around them, you have a node in our network waiting to be claimed. Information should work for you, not the other way around.

How?

Sharing information in maximum amount and quality can help avert misunderstandings in communication. The process of sharing data of any kind can be done regardless of personal values and beliefs. In the current legal system, however, a common way of sharing is to use open licenses and making the implication of them to be known and openly reviewable by everyone. To declare in advance the criteria on how information is to be shared, differs from most forms of verbal communication. This process is often overlooked, leading to unspecific guess-work. With this in mind, contributors share the perspective that if communal development and flat social structures are to be a realizable future, the system of our communication network has to be valued as one of our most respected resources. How can we face each other and our environment with openness and transparency, if not through declaring the information we share to be open and transparent?

Creativity, diverse rationality and a systems perspective are crucial factors in the process of cultural and social evolution. Since every system in space is bound by laws of uncertainty, all the ones humans orchestrate must dedicate space for adaptability and multiple levels of security. With this in mind, branches of development are geared towards realizing the potency of a read+write culture in an environment where flat collaboration is done with mentors, instead of leaders, representatives or authorities - freeing from assumption that information can be held as true, only because it was provided by a person holding a specific social status. Here, the individual is recognized as being incapable of objectivity, therefore bound to sharing only perspective.

When extrapolating development into the future, collaborators on this platform picture earth as a world of balanced interaction between species, empathy and human advancement through sharing work using open solutions. That is why great effort is being put to best ensure that contributors will have the guaranty that the entire development cycle of their production will be freely shared, publicly available and open to improvements and modifications. This prospects planetary resources not having to be wasted on wheel reinvention by segregated networks of human collaboration, competing to lock down information with copyrights and patents.

Within the development web, similarly to others, we choose to work as volunteers, replacing monetarily driven motivation with the steaming urge of being able to empower the individual with ability to copy, share and reproduce resources they need - ending the era of information and resource scarcity. Thus, there is not a good enough reason for why humanity should propagate a monetary system that profits from the difference between those who have and those who do not.

The human life is short in comparison to many organisms on our planet. Culture and social development is tailored accordingly, hence communicating through unspecific means and saving time doing it. This stands in contrast to the scientific community where time is invested to share information as being maximally specific and coherent. Research in scientific methodology could work as a bridge between the two extremes, making critical thinking a fundamental aspect of human behavior. But how can one take a critical stance towards any product of our society if the information behind it is not openly accessible - be it the shoes you are wearing, the food you eat, or the house you live in. If you know how the produce was made, you can also choose to support the way it was made. In that sense, true sustainability means creating robust and balanced social, and environmental ecosystems - networks that benefit long-term from information being openly distributed and diverse, with no loose ends in the production cycle.

Problem solving could be approached by making designs openly available for peer review and by placing education and popularization of scientific methodology among the main objectives in development. A unifying current in projects so far is helping everybody to learn and improve their lives. This takes the expression of individuals becoming highly skilled in fields of their interest, increasing their amount of self reliance and facilitating their potential of working within global community network.

Taking inspiration from Darwin's theory of evolution, a shared perspective is that diversity and balance makes uniqueness possible. An open interaction that could revolutionize the way we perceive each other and the environment surrounding us.

What?

While "why" and "how" will give you a broad overview of the network. However, a big motivational factor in current information sharing is for the ability of the development and its products to speak for itself. Therefore, this section is dedicated as an introduction to what is currently being worked on and how far the development has gotten.

RepRap

The RepRap is a project with potential to enable rapid prototyping of 3D objects - door knobs, phone covers, forks, you name it. Blue-prints are shared by open source licenses, meaning that you can configure and redesign all developed parts to your liking. This, in turn, means that we can eliminate a monetarily intense part of the modern day industrial production process, since optimization is put right where it should be - in your hands. Also, the environmental strain of logistics will be reduced since products needed will be created locally and only the raw material is transported if not grown close to the factory. Currently, we are gathering resources for two machines that could help establish small-scale factories all over the world. Feel free to visit our branch of it.

OSF

OSF stands for Open Source Farming, and it is, as the name might indicate, an open source project. We're tired of all the waste and inefficiency that occurs in society today. Where most our food is packaged, resulting in a tremendous waste of resources that sometimes poisons our environment. We ship food large distances, even if people are hungry just next door, just because someone else pays more paper for it. We think that everybody should have easy access to healthy food with little effort. Our goal is to give everybody the information needed to grow their own food in an as easy and cheap way as possible, as well as giving everyone the tools to help contribute to the same thing.

The "Who" Suggestion By BranManFloMore

This would be nice to do. By mentioning everyone's name here: http://rbose.org/wiki/Resources

And by each name, there can be a brief bio (a paragraph) next to their names and then a MORE link connecting them to their WIKI Profiles.

The "Why" Suggestion By BranManFloMore

Disclaimer: Feel free to add suggestions to my suggestions.

Throughout the time of existence with humankind on this planet, there have been numerous attempts to keep science, knowledge and resources from being shared with everyone due to lack of reasoning and logic of what can happen when we choose to share. Sharing creates cooperation, not sharing creates competition. Yet, history/her-story has shown that individuals can feel the need to claim ownership of resources and protect their work from being shared when faced with scarcity of those very resources that people need or want access too. As a result, technology and art could vastly improve human culture and society as a whole is kept hoarded and out of reach from most people which is a tragedy of events. This way of thinking promotes that there will always be scarcity, therefore we must always act like this in order to get by. This is not true. Yes, scarcity does make costs go up on items- therefore making profit a problem. But if the environment is friendly towards everyone and is for everyone, a lot would change.

If we hunt for profit and resource access for resources, then our society will always remain backwards. It is time to move forward. It is time to leave the economic dogma that we see today and enter in a new paradigm. It is important that everyone is taken care of and for abundance to be made for the population to avoid future scarcity. Redundancy is key here. This method must be applied in the real world and the virtual world we call the internet. Offline and online. It's important that everyone has access to food, water, clothes and shelter always. And it must be our priority to make sure everyone is offered the tools to not only get by in life, but to enjoy life as well as being a contributor to society. With what you need, there's no telling one can accomplish.

Open and transparent cooperation between humans is far more beneficial for the society as a whole than religious notions, nationalistic beliefs and monetary gain. If anyone of these become singular with motivation, then corruption is guaranteed when it come to what's being pushed on people therefore creating elitism. We respect those who have their own beliefs, but those beliefs should not be pushed on anyone to make someone feel less of a person in society. We do not need to create individuals who feel worthy when everyone has their own potentials that makes them special. This is what we want to move away from. This is mainly because byproducts of these so called "institutions" are often social pressures, economic externalization and discrimination. Only negativity can come out of such established notions and we wish not to fall into the same trap. We must not repeat what was done in the past.

If motivation and inspiration to develop can be encouraged in an environment where knowledge is open and freely accessible, relationship between individuals can be shaped regardless of personal background and beliefs. This will promise positivity. In such an environment where information is open and unrestricted, anyone who wants to participate can at any time when it comes to the cutting edge of science, working and sharing the latest knowledge our environment can offer. We should want and need to move away from what harms us and the environment that will damage motivation and move towards a betterment that will make us want to contribute to society so that we can see beauty and for a beautiful society to actually be real and remain.

If you think that sharing is caring and understand that the most beneficial thing anyone can do is to take care of the environment around them along with the people around you, then you have a node in our network waiting to be claimed. Information should work for you, not the other way around. Information should be available to you freely, not the other way around. There should always be transparency, not the other way around. This is why we are here and why this environment was created.

The "When" Suggestion By BranManFloMore

Maybe writing about how RBOSE was created. People like to hear a decent biography with out the negative stuff.

The "When" Suggestion By GhettoFish

Personally, I think it is vital that we never exclude the negative stuff. It is just as important as the positive and has defined us just as much.

The "How" Suggestion By BranManFloMore

Misunderstandings can be avoided once everyone gets all information to the maximum. The process of sharing data of any kind can be done regardless of personal values and beliefs.
