This page is dedicated to the idea of clean and self-sufficient transport of the future. This page lists alternative vehicles and should help to build clean Transporation possiblities. LandElectricCarsBattery-Electric Vehicles (EVs)Battery-Electric Vehicles or EVs are cars that run on electricity stored in batteries. Popularity of converting gasoline-powered cars to EVs soared in the 1970s and again since the 1990s. Battery types of the past had limited range and performance, while modern Lithium battery types offer low weight, high power output and storage capacity. Costs are still high for LiFeP04 Lithium batteries, but their higher life cycle (typically 1000 to 3000 recharges) than other battery types can offset the cost. A gallery of over 2000 EVs (commercial and DIY conversions) can be found at the following site. Many include links to personal blogs where the owner has detailed the conversion process: http://www.evalbum.com/ MotorcyclesE-Bikes (Power-assisted bicycles)E-Bikes are commonly a regular diamond-frame bicycle, that has either been purpose built or retro-fitted with an electric motor, speed controller and battery. Recumbent-style bikes and trikes that are electric power assisted offer higher efficiency due to their lower wind resistance. Motor types used are typically cheap brushed DC motors (Unite brand is common) or brushless DC motors found in remote controlled helicopters. Both are normally set up to use gear reduction through the bike chain. Another type is the brushless hub motor, found in abundance in Chinese kits and ready made E-bikes. They are built into the wheel itself, and while providing a more "stealth" look, they are limited to a single gear-ratio.
